Operation Respect (OR). The concept of Operation Respect was first inspired in 1999 by Peter Yarrow of the legendary folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, and Dr. Charlotte Frank, then Senior Vice President, Research and Development, McGraw-Hill Education. A song - "Don’t Laugh at Me" - further propelled Yarrow and team to design and develop a social and emotional learning program that uniquely incorporates elements of music and the arts to reach the hearts of practitioners and students alike, creating a strong sense of community, encouraging acceptance of differences, and sparking a vital and affirmative school spirit. Website provides fabulous materials and ideas to move positively forward in critical child advocacy areas especially in the area of Community Outreach goals in the schools and beyond.
Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA). Founded in 1972 by Donna Stone in Chicago, Prevent Child Abuse America has laid the groundwork to promote services that improve child well-being in all 50 states. Their programs focus on community activities and public awareness/policies that prioritize prevention right from the start. Given the long history of this organization and its role in not only supporting child abuse prevention efforts, but also helping to develop national policies in advocating for healthy families, it is an important group for FCA student clubs to tap into to help support in particular their Public Awareness and Community Outreach goals.
National Bullying Prevention Center - MN (Pacer). October is National Bullying Prevention Month - a nationwide campaign founded in 2006 by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center. It unites communities around the world to educate and raise awareness of bullying prevention. Over the past 10 years, this campaign grew from a small week-long event to a worldwide effort with multiple activities throughout October supported by hundreds of schools, major corporations, and celebrities. Their website provides exciting materials that FCA student clubs can utilize on campus and in their communities to reach many goals in both Public Awareness efforts and Community Outreach... The End of Bullying Begins With Me!
Books and Curricula - RelationSafe books, comics, and curriculum prepare readers to bring “People Safety” knowledge and skills into their families, schools, organizations, and workplaces.
